According to scientists, radio waves have been sent to Earth in bursts from an unknown source since 1988. Moreover, the possibility of it being a planet or a star is very low. However, this is not the first time such a phenomenon has been observed. So, what makes these radio waves so special as to astonish the scientific community?
The discovery of “conscious life” in space is imminent!
Recent studies by scientists have confirmed a high likelihood of at least 2 planets within our solar system being habitable a long time ago. With billions of different systems contained within galaxies, and billions of galaxies appearing as mere specks, the probability of life being absent seems quite low.
Of course, just as humanity is in search of habitable planets for the future, efforts are also being made to discover conscious life. Today, an important step has been taken in this field. Scientists have detected that an unidentified source has been regularly sending bursts of energy to Earth for 35 years. The brightness levels of these bursts also show considerable variation.
At first glance, these emissions resemble bursts emitted by neutron stars known as pulsars or fast radio bursts. However, the newly discovered source is emitting radio signals over a period of 20 to 21 minutes, which was previously considered implausible by existing explanations.
To better understand the matter, let’s provide more details. Pulsars are rapidly rotating neutron stars that can emit radio bursts during their movement. Therefore, when a pulsar passes Earth, emissions can be received very briefly and brightly, similar to being exposed to the light of a rotating lighthouse.
However, this process can only occur if the pulsar has a strong enough magnetic field and is rotating fast enough. Otherwise, there would not be enough energy for us on Earth to observe the pulsar. This threshold, known as the pulsar death line, means that the source must rotate quickly and powerfully for it to be detected.
Yet, the newly discovered object named GPMJ1839-10 is far beyond this death line. If it is indeed a pulsar, it could instantly overturn the theories and data proposed by scientists until today, as it operates in a completely different manner than expected.
However, it could also be a high magnetic field white dwarf or a magnetar. Nonetheless, scientists say that they are not inclined to emit such emissions, which means they are facing yet another extraordinary situation.
After the incident, scientists examined old records and stated that these signals have been detected on Earth since at least 1988. However, during that time, these data may have seemed meaningless or were detected without knowing what they were during another research.
Moreover, our current technology is still not sufficient to interpret these data. Therefore, it is mentioned that new research will be conducted for similar situations in the future. Victoria M Kaspi, a Physics Professor at McGill University, also commented on the matter:
“With time, we will discover what other things are hidden in this data and what observations on different astronomical time scales will reveal.”
